Slacking

As we all know, I have not been keeping up with this blog. I no longer collect skylanders because I am a broke college student. However, I am going to try and post more with actual helpful information. I have an idea on how to do so and will start as soon as possible. 

In other news, I'll be updating my Funkeys blog in the near future as well. Some colleagues and I are hoping to remake Funkeys, and what we have so far is pretty impressive. If you want to learn more about it go to tekfreakz-games.com. At least until I update my other blog. See ya soon!

Skylanders: SwapForce: Is It Really Worth It?

So here's the thing. I really really like Skylanders. But I have not the time nor the money to spend collecting SwapForce characters when I have not even started collecting the non-variants from Giants. Christmas is coming up and I was in GameStop today and noticed all of their Dark Edition starter packs. They also had tons and tons of both INfinity and SwapForce characters there. Now, if I were rich I'd buy them all at once and not think twice. But I don't understand how collectors can spend so much money on these toys, who don't even correspond to that great of a game. The target audience for Skylanders is too narrow.

Let's time travel back to 2007. UB Funkeys. Now, this game was pretty much just Skylanders before Skylanders existed. It was a PC game that required what was called a Hub and little vinyl characters that would be placed on it. When you did, that character would appear in your game and would unlock different areas and items within the game--just like Skylanders. But the thing about Funkeys is that when adults bought it for their kids, then sat down to play it with them, they got addicted too! Adults loved playing that game just as much as the kids. With Skylanders, the only adults who play are those who are obsessive collectors, who are really into "playing" with their kids, or who never grew up. Skylanders is by far a kids game. It's simple and childish--which I'm not saying is bad! It's just that it isn't reaching as wide a fan base as it could. What kinds of games do adults play on the computer? Card games? Gambling games? Relaxing zen games? Funkeys had mini games for every age group. From dominoes, to pinball, to racing, to boxing, to puzzles, to mah-jongg. They have something for everyone, as well as a multiplayer feature so that you could play and chat with other online users. They only reason I believe Funkeys did not survive was because it was only available as a PC game. Had they thought to develop it for any console games it would have been more successful than Skylanders before Skylanders was even thought of.

Also, if you have any suggestions for how to go about purchasing Skylanders for little to no money, do tell. I am still interested in completing my collection. That is all.

Skylanders Frito Lay Contest

So there is a new contest going on that ends at the end of the year for Frito Lay. This time they are giving away a GITD Rattle Shake. This contest doesn't run the same as the sidekicks contests. It is more like the Fright Rider one. You only have to buy one bag of chips, and the code is on the outside of the bag. This is because you can use the code as many times as you want.

A lot of people had trouble finding the code. It could be anywhere on the front of the bag. On some, there is a white box with a barcode thing in it on the top left, and it is in there. On others, like the one I have, it is near the bottom next to the expiration date. It is really hard to see because it is black text and it is kind of distorted. If you can't find it you can just look one up online.

So the way it works is that you go on the website and fill out your email and code, then click submit and it will redirect you to a screen letting you know if you one or not. It is not the code that lets you win, but instead it is a random time every 15 minutes. Sad part is you can only use the same email once per day. I'd say the best strategy is to get 15 emails that you have access to. The, fill out your info and don't click submit until the very second when the clock changes the minute, and be prepared to do this every minute for 15 minutes. That gives you the best chance, I believe.

I have not won one yet though, so what do I know?


In other news, I got the Halloween edition of Eye-Brawl. It's pretty cool. I also pre-ordered Swap Force so that I could get the Lightcore Hex, then returned the actual starter pack the next day :P I didn't want to spend that much at the time. I still might not. I might just finish up my Giants collection and then let it be. It's getting too expensive. Now that I have a job and am making my own money, I am more reluctant to just go spend tons of money on Skylanders.... (she says as she just finishes up buying $80.00 worth of U.B. Funkeys for herself for Christmas)

Infinity Release

So I started college on August 17th. The day before Disney's Infinity was to be released. On the second day of college I took a trip to NYC. Unbeknownst to me, there was a big event going on in Time Square for the release of Infinity! And I was there! Here is a picture of them setting up the display:

Unfortunately I could not stay for more than a few minutes as I was with a group of students for orientation. :( I'm also sorry this post took so long. Being in college has made me exhausted and frankly I didn't have the time. But now that I'm so close to NYC you will definitely see more of this kind of stuff. Like when I go to Comic Con!!

All Four Sidekicks

Just got Barkley and Mini Jini! Now I have all four!

Gnarly Tree Rex and Giants Sidekicks

So I got back from my vacation in new Hampshire and returned to find I had gotten Eye Small and Thumpling in the mail. Still waiting on the other two. However, when I was in NH I found a single pack of Gnarly Tree Rex for $15.

It was the last one (and possibly the only one ever) there. I was staring at the rack for a good 5 minutes before the cashier picked it up and handed it to me and said "This is really rare, you want it? We just got it this morning." Hell yeah I want it! They had been open for only about a half hour at the time I was there, but there was also this young kid there who asked his mom for it but she told him that she didn't have enough money and that if they came back later and it was still there she'd get it for him. Oh well for that kid. Sucks to suck. It's mine now. 

Skylanders Giants Sidekicks

Recently bought 4 bags of frito lay chips at Walmart. When I tried getting my free Skylanders I ran into some problems. First of all, they are doing the promotion online this year instead of mail-ins. So I went through and filled out all of my info and what skylander sidekick I wanted for my first bag. Then it took me to where you pay. Well since I don't have a credit card I went and asked my mom to do it for me and she said to wait til after dinner. Well long story short, my paypal session timed out, and when I went to resubmit my info it said that that code had already been used, even though I never paid. So we called customer service, which went surprisingly fast, and they told us that they could fix it, but they needed to give time for the paypal payment to go through their system as an error and that it could take up to 4 days. So I just went through and got my other 3 sidekicks and I'll try the fourth in a few days.

Hi guys, sorry for not posting in like forever. Just wanted to let you know I got a lot of new skylanders. I'll be making a new post soon with pictures and details, but right now I don't have time. More to come soon!

Skylanders: Swap Force

Maybe you've heard that a new Skylanders game is being released November of 2013... Well yeah. Yipee. Anyway, this game features new characters that have swappable torsos and bottoms. The game also has a new portal you'll have to get, but it is backwards compatible with the old figures. You can look up more on darkspyro.net or www.skylanders.com/swapforce.

In other news, I'm going to the store today to try and find Molten Hot Dog. Maybe even a Jade Flashwing, Polar Whirlwind, or Scarlet Ninjini. Wish me luck!

Wow

I'm sorry to say that ever since I decided to wait for the end of the season to buy the Skylanders bundle,  I have forgotten about this website.... I will say that I have bought all of the exclusive characters that you can only get at certain stores (i.e. the legendaries, golden dragonfire cannon, etc.); I also got a giant and two series 2 characters for my birthday. Other than that though, I haven't even thought about Skylanders.....

In the meantime, however, this site got over 31,000 views in 1 month!!! I can't even fathom that. That's incredible! I understand it was December, the holiday month, but still I'm very grateful to have so many people who visit my site! So for that, I thank you. Currently its views are about 57,800. Keep it up! I promise I'll post when important sh-tuff goes down. :)

Giants ARE OUT!!

Went to Best Buy today. I was the first one there, they were still stocking the shelves when I showed up. Here's some pictures:

Then I went to Toys R Us to pre-order the legendary triple pack... But they were already in stock and I snagged the last one!!

My neighbor actually works at Best Buy, so from now on there's a good chance I'll be able to get the employee discount. TRU had a buy 1 get 1 40% off on all things Skylanders.

Also, my Best Buy is  hiring, so hopefully I'll get a job there.

Legendaries and Adventure Packs

Both Toys R Us and Gamestop have their own exclusives. According to 1ofWiisdom at 1ofWiisdom.blogspot.com, TRU has a pre-order for a legendary 3-pack with Ignitor, Slam Bam, and Jet-Vac, and can be found on their Hot Toy List for Christmas. There is also a Chill, Stealth Elf, and Bouncer to be coming out in the future.

Gamestop has the Golden Dragonfire Cannon Battle Pack available for pre-order. 1ofWiisdom said that TRU had the same thing up on their site without the "Golden" in the title, but it's not there anymore.

Last night I got home to find out that I had recieved all four sidekicks in the mail! Whoo-hoo! I might have more sent to my grandparents to sell for big $$$. Not sure yet. Here's a picture:

Skylanders Chat Room

Since the chat tree on Skylanders is useless, and none of the developers seem to be taking my advice, I'm putting up a chat room on this site for Skylanders. If you are online, type your Portal Master name into the name box of the chat so people know who you are, and keep it open in another tab. It's not up as of this post, but it's going up soon and will be another page on the site.

Skylanders Universe Admin

So I did a test yesterday. On the website's blog they made a post about the new catch phrases of the characters. I made a condescending comment about how they should do something more productive like change the chat so that if you're 13+ you can type whatever you want and if you're under 13 there should be a setting to turn free chat off so that you can only see/say things from the chat tree. Anyone who's commented on anything knows that the comment has to be accepted by an administrator of the site. They didn't add my comment! Then I typed the same thing and commented again and they still didn't add it. Then I wrote "This is sooo cool!!" AND THEY ADDED IT. What losers. How is anyone supposed to get their opinion across if all they post is complementary comments?? All I was trying to do is give them contructive criticism. They need it.

That's not the reason. It's because you're babies :P

Dark Spyro

So Sarah is going to trade me her Dark Spyro for Whirlwind. :) Hopefully I'll be able to acquire Camo, Cynder, and Wham-Shell before the end of summer. Anyone willing to trade?

So today I'm buying all 4 Legendaries... In quarters. Know how I said I was broke? Well, that's why I'm paying in quarters. I have to wait for my mom to take me to the bank to cash them in so I can buy them online with her credit card. The only 2 Toys R Us by me are ~20 miles away and its no fun to drive all that way to not find anything... So, yeah. :) Now all I need is Dark Spyro, Camo, Cynder, and Wham-Shell! Even though I can probably get the Dark Spyro from my boyfriend's sister. She got the 3DS game for Christmas and hasn't played since. I think she'd be willing to let me use it... Maybe.

Nearing the Close of My Skylander Collection...For Now

Morgan the cashier called me the other day. They didn't have any I didn't have so I told her she didn't need to save them. I only need 3 more: Wham-shell, Camo, and Cynder. Also the Legendaries and Dark Spyro-- but they don't count cause they are the same as their regular forms. So until the new Giants come out, I'm doing pretty good. I also have exactly $0.00 left to buy them with... Wish me luck! And good luck to all of you too!

I Feel Special

So I went to Gamestop the other day and got the Empire of Ice adventure pack for $21. I know, $21?? Yeah. 21. They are quite expensive at Gamestop. But I'm okay with that. I suppose.

Also went to Kmart and talked to my cashier friend, Morgan. She showed me how she's got a cool little notebook with her customer contacts in it. I'm on the first page. That's right. First. Page. She said she only got the book cause of me. Haha. That makes me feel special. She also thinks I have a crush on Joe. Teehee. Anyway........ How is YOUR hunt going? Anyone still play Funkeys??

More Skylanders

Went to Gamestop today and got 8 new Skylanders!! Drill Sergent, Whirlwind, Prism Break, Lightning Rod, Double Trouble, Ignitor, Zook, and Stump Smash. (: I also talked to Joe from Kmart and he's going to make sure he contacts me if they get any new ones. It's amazing though. A few months ago there were no Skylanders to be found. Now there's 20+ at each store!! Craziness. Anyway, hope you're enjoying your Skylanders!

Oohhh! She Wants to Beat Up Joe!

Okay so a few weeks ago on a Monday, I think it was the 6th, I went to Kmart after my eye appointment (they are right next door). I went to the electronics counter (there is never anyone there) and saw they had a 3-pack with Stump Smash. I grabbed it right away and was gonna buy it. My mom wouldn't let me cause I had the other 2 in the pack. But I wanted to talk to Joe (the guy who said he'd save my Skylanders). So my mom asked some lady to call a worker to electronics. When they showed up (there were two: a tall black guy and a chubby white guy) they asked what I needed. I said "Is Joe here?" they said "No, Joe just walked out the front door." "Oh... Is Sam (the manager. Yes, I know all their names lol) here?" "Uh, no. Sam's not here." "Oh... That's disappointing." I then proceed to slowly walk away and put the 3-pack back on the rack. "Can we help you with anything else??" I told them how Joe said he would save Skylanders for me. The the black guy says 'ooohhhh she wants to beat up Joe!" Then we laughed as that was partially true... I was mad that he didn't call me. But, hey, what can you expect??

Micro waves

So today my brother was playing Skylanders on the tv in the living room which is right next to my kitchen. My mom goes to warm him up some french toast sticks in the microwave... A screen pops up and says the portal lost connection. My brother jokingly said 'hey, maybe it's the microwave'. And to our surprise, as soon as the microwave stopped, the portal reconnected. Apparently, the microwaves from the microwave interfere with the infrared waves from the portal. Interesting...

Monday

Well the Kmart guy wasn't there... so I talked to his manager like he said.. and she said that they don't restock until tomorrow... But while I was out I did go to Target and Best Buy. At Target I got Bash. Whoooo! And then I went to Best Buy.. turns out they don't open until 10am.. so we were waiting in the parking lot for twenty minutes. And with about 5 minutes left this car pulled in next to us and they had two little girls in the back seat. I had a stare-down with them. Then my brother and I ran out of the car and stood inches away from the door.. Turns out the girls didn't even go there for skylanders... and they had a whole zero skylanders there...

First off, Happy New Year!! Hope everyone had a great 2011!

Secondly, I went to Kmart today and guess what happened? My brother asked the counter dude when they would restock Skylanders. He said they get more and sell out every day and that you had to get there early. Then he said 'Wanna tell me which ones you want and I'll hold them for you?' Um... YESSSS!! So yeah.. I reserved every Skylander out that I don't have. They'll be getting more Monday so I'll repost with the news then. Again, happy new year!!
